Q. Which of the following has smallest number of molecules ?

AMUAMU 2010Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

(a) Number of molecules in $11.2\,L$ of $O_{2}$
$\frac{11.2}{22.4}\times 6.023\times 10^{23}$
$=0.5\times N_{A}$
(b) Number of molecules in $8.0 \,g$ of $O_{2}$
$=\frac{8.0}{32}\times6.023\times10^{23}$
$=0.25\times N_{A}$
(c) Number of molecules in $0.1$ mole of $O_{2}$
$=0.1\times 6.023\times 10^{23}$
$=0.1\times N_{A}$
(d) Number of molecules in $2.24\times 10^{4}\,mL$ of $O_{2}$
$=\frac{2.24\times 10^{4}}{22400} \times 6.023\times 10^{23}$
$=N_{A}$
Thus, $0.1$ mole of $O_{2}$ contains smallest number of molecules
