AIIMS
AIIMS 2013
Digestion and Absorption
A
Pepsin - Chief cells
80%
B
Chymotrypsin - Parietal cells
5%
C
HCI - Goblet cells
10%
D
Mucus - Oxyntic cells
5%
Solution:
Parietal cells (or oxyntic cells) secrete hydrochloric acid (HCI) and Castle's intrinsic factor. Chief cells (or peptic cells) secrete gastric digestive enzymes as proenzymes
—
pepsinogen and prorennin. HCI helps in converting pepsinogen to pepsin. Goblet cells secrete mucus which helps to neutralise acid in stomach and protects stomach wall against HCI action.
