Q. Which is the correct increasing order of ionization energies?

JIPMERJIPMER 2002

Solution:

The ionisation energy, in a period increases from left to right, hence, the increasing order should be N < O < F. But the actual order is O < N < F. The ionisation energy of nitrogen is greater than that of oxygen due to stabler electronic configuration of N ( $ 2{{p}^{3}}, $ half-filled p-orbital).
