Q.
Which is not a polymer?
Delhi UMET/DPMTDelhi UMET/DPMT 2005
Solution:
(i) Teflon is polymer of tetrafluoroethylene $\left(C F_{2}=C F_{2}\right)$
(ii) Starch is polymer having formula $\left(C_{6} H_{10} O_{5}\right)_{n}$
(iii) Enzymes are proteins made of polypeptides.
(iv) Sucrose $\left(C_{12} H_{22} O_{11}\right)$ is a disaccharide.
It gives two molecules of monosaccharides on hydrolysis.
It is not polymer but it is dimer.
$\underset{\text{sucrose}}{C_{12}H _{22} O _{11}} + H _{2} O \ce{->[ H ^{+} \text {/invertase }]} \underset{\text{glucose}}{C_6H_{12}O_6} +\underset{\text { fructose }}{ C_6H _{12}} O _{6}$
