Q. Which element among the following cannot form an amphoteric oxide?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Phosphorus being a non-metal always forms acidic oxides like $\text{P}_{4}\text{O}_{6}, \, \text{P}_{4}\text{O}_{10},$ etc. whereas $Al, \, Sn$ and $Sb$ are amphoteric elements.
$\text{A}\text{l}_{2}\text{O}_{3}, \, \text{S}\text{n}\text{O}$ and $\text{S}\text{b}_{2}\text{O}_{3}$ are amphoteric oxides i.e., they can react with both acids as well as bases.
