Q. Which combinations of quantum numbers $n, l, m$ and $s$ for the electron in an atom does not provide a permissible solution of the wave equation?

ManipalManipal 2006Structure of Atom

Solution:

When $n=3$ number of values of $l$ are 0 to $n-1$ i.e., $0,1,2$. Hence, when $n=3$, then $l=3$ does not exist.
