Q. Which cells do not act as the target cells of HIV infections in the human body?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

HIV specifically affects the helper T-cells reducing the number of helper T- cells. Due to this, the immune system fails to signal B-cells to produce antibodies and cytotoxic T-cells to kill infected cells. Thus, the immune system can no longer respond and becomes immune deficiency to many opportunistic infections. Hence, it is named Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or AIDS.
