Q. When washing soda is heated:
The s-Block Elements
A
$CO _{2}$ is released
B
$CO + CO _{2}$ is released
C
CO is released
D
Water vapour is released
Solution:
Washing soda is sodium carbonate decahydrate $\left( Na _{2} CO _{3} .10 H _{2} O \right)$
But on heating above $373 K$ it loses all the water molecules to form anhydrous sodium carbonate or soda ash
$Na _{2} CO _{3} \cdot H _{2} O \stackrel{\Delta}{\longrightarrow } \underset{\text{Soda ash}} {Na _{2} CO _{3}+ H _{2} O}$
