Q. When strong base (NaOH) is added to the weak acid (acetic acid, $\left.CH _{3} COOH \right)$ , then dissociation of acetic acid increases; this effect is known as

Solution:

$\text{CH}_{\text{3}} \text{COOH} \, \text{+} \, \text{NaOH} \rightleftharpoons \text{CH}_{\text{3}} \text{COONa} \, \text{+} \, \text{H}_{\text{2}} \text{O}$

Ionisation of acetic acid will increase with the progress of its neutralization. This effect is called reverse ion effect.
