Q. When one molecule of ATP is disintegrated, what amount of energy is liberated?

AIPMTAIPMT 1996Respiration in Plants

Solution:

ATP is adenosine triphosphate. It was discovered by Lohmann in 1929. It consists of a purine, adenine, a pentose sugar (ribose) and a row of three phosphates out of which the last two are attached by high energy bonds. The last phosphate bond yields an energy equivalent of 7 kcal.
