Hydrolysis of cyanides with a boiling mineral acid or alkali yields the corresponding carboxylic acid. $ C{{H}_{3}}-CN+2{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow{{{H}^{+}}}C{{H}_{3}}COOH+N{{H}_{3}} $ Note: The intermediate product is acetamide.
