Q. When malic acid is the respiratory substrate

Uttarkhand PMTUttarkhand PMT 2010

Solution:

When organic acid such as malic acid $\left(C_{4} H_{6} O_{5}\right)$ is oxidised in respiration, the value of $R Q$ becomes more than one. It is because organic acids are rich in oxygen and require less oxygen for oxidation but release more carbon dioxide.
