Q. When light of a certain wavelength is incident on a plane surface of a material at a glancing angle $30^{\circ}$, the reflected light is found to be completely plane polarised. Determine angle of refraction. (in degree)

Wave Optics

Solution:

According to Brewster
$\mu=\tan i _{ p }$
$\mu=\tan 60^{\circ}$
$\mu=\sqrt{3}$
$\sin r =\frac{\sin i }{\mu}=\frac{\sin 60^{\circ}}{\sqrt{3}}=\frac{1}{2}$
$r =30^{\circ}$
