The p-Block Elements

Solution:

When excess of carbon dioxide is passed in lime water, calcium carbonate is converted to calcium bicarbonate which is soluble, hence the milkiness due to calcium carbonate disappears.
$Ca ( OH )_{2}+ CO _{2} \rightarrow \underset{\text { Milkiness }}{ CaCO _{3}} \downarrow+ H _{2} O$
$CaCO _{3}+ H _{2} O + CO _{2} \rightarrow \underset{\text{soluble}}{Ca \left( HCO _{3}\right)_{2}}$
