Solution:

$Cl _{2}+2 NaI \rightarrow 2 NaCl + I _{2}$
$I _{2}$ gives violet colouration in $CHCl _{3}$.
$5 Cl _{2}+6 H _{2} O + I _{2} \rightarrow \underset{\text { Colourless }}{2 HIO _{3}}+10 HCl$
So, $I _{2}$ formed is converted to $HIO _{3}$.
