Q. When $CH_{3}COOH$ reacts with $CH_{3}-MgX$
AMUAMU 2004
Solution:
Grignard reagent on reaction with any compound containing active H-atom decompose to give alkene. (When $H$-atom is attached to $O , N$ or $S$ or acidic in nature then it is known as active $H$-atom)
In $CH _{3} COOH$ active $H$-atom is present. So, when it reacts with $CH _{3} Mg X$, then a hydrocarbon is formed.
$CH _{3} COOH + CH _{3} MgX \rightarrow CH _{4}+ CH _{3} COOMgX$
