Q. When a magnet is moved with its north pole towards a coil placed in a closed circuit, then the nearest face of the coil shows :

J & K CETJ & K CET 2000

Solution:

From end rule, we know that if on looking at an end of the solenoid the current appears to be flowing anticlockwise, then that end is north pole, if it appears flowing clockwise that end is south pole. When a north pole of magnet is brought near a coil the current induced in the coil must be anticlockwise direction so as to show north polarity, at the nearest face of the coil that will oppose the inward motion of north pole of magnet.
