Q. When a guitar string is sounded with a $440 Hz$ tuning fork, a beat frequency of $5 Hz$ is heard. If the experiment is repeated with a tuning fork of $437 Hz$, the beat frequency is $8 Hz$. The string frequency $( Hz )$ is
Solution:
$\upsilon - 5 = 440\, Hz$
$\upsilon - 8 = 437 \,Hz$
$\therefore \upsilon = 445 \,Hz$ by both the methods.
It could have been $435 \,Hz$.
It would have satisfied $440 - \upsilon = 5$.
But this would not have satisfied $437 \,Hz$.
