Q. When $200 \,mL$ of $0.2\, M$ acetic acid is shaken with $0.6 \,g$ of wood charcoal, the final concentration of acetic after adsorption is $0.1\, M$. The mass of acetic acid adsorbed per garm of carbon is _____ $g$.

JEE MainJEE Main 2022Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

weight of wood charcoal $=0.6\, g$
Mass of acetic acid adsorbed $=\frac{ M _{1} V _{1}- M _{2} V _{2}}{1000} \times 60$
$=\frac{0.2 \times 200-0.1 \times 200}{1000} \times 60 $
$=1.2\, g$
Mass of acetic acid adsorbed per gram of
carbon $=\frac{1.2}{0.6}=2$
