Q. When $1 MH _{2} SO _{4}$ is completely neutralised by sodium hydroxide, the heat liberated is $114.64 kJ$. What is the enthalpy of neutralisation ?

Solution:

Enthalpy of neutralisation is enthalpy change when 1 geq. of acid is neutralised by 1 geq. of base. In question, 2 geq. of $H _{2} SO _{4}$ is being neutralised. Hence enthalpy of neutralisation is
$\frac{-114.64}{2}=-57.32\,kj$
