Q. What volume of water is to be added to $100 \,cm^{3}$ of $0.5\, M NaOH$ solution to make it $0.1\, M$ solution?

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$M_1V_1 = M_2V_2$
$0.5 \times 100 = 0.1 \times V_2$
$\Rightarrow V_2 = 500\, cm^{3}$
Volume of water to be added to $100\, cm^{3}$ of solution
$= 500 - 100 = 400 \,cm^{3}$
