For a non-wetting liquid angle of contact is obtuse.
When a liquid is brought in contact with a solid surface, the surface of the liquid becomes curved near the place of contact. The nature of the curvature (convex or concave) depends upon the relative magnitudes of the cohesive force between the liquid molecules and adhesive force between the molecules of liquid and those of solid. For liquids which do not wet the solid have obtuse angle of contact, and liquid surface assumes a convex upward shape.
