Q. What is the order of a reaction which has a rate expression rate $ =k(A)^{3/2}(B)^{-1} $ ?

AFMCAFMC 2007

Solution:

Order of reaction : The total number of molecules or atoms whose concentration determine the rate of reaction is known as order of reaction.
Order of reaction $=$ sum of exponents of the
conc. term in the rate law
rate $=k[A]^{\frac{3}{2}}[B]^{-1} $
$\therefore $ Order of reaction $=\frac{3}{2}+(-1)$
$=\frac{1}{2}=0.5 $
