Q. What is the energy stored in a $50\, mH$ inductor carrying a current of $4A$?

Jharkhand CECEJharkhand CECE 2004

Solution:

Energy stored in an inductor is given by
$E=\frac{1}{2} L i^{2}$
Given, $L=50 \,m H$
$=50 \times 10^{-3} H, i=4 \,A $
$\therefore E=\frac{1}{2} \times 50 \times 10^{-3} \times(4)^{2} $
$\Rightarrow E=0.4 \,J$
