Q. What is the energy of the electron revolving in third orbit expressed in $eV$ ?

KCETKCET 2014Atoms

Solution:

The energy of electron in any orbit is given by
$E=\frac{-2 \pi^{2} m e^{4} Z^{2} K^{2}}{n^{2} h^{2}}=-\frac{13.6}{n^{2}} eV$
$E=-\frac{13.6}{(3)^{2}}=-\frac{13.6}{9}=-1.51\, eV$
$(n=3$ for 3 rd Bohr's orbit)
