Friedel-Craft reaction When benzene is heated with alkyl halide or acyl halide in the presence of anhydrous $AlCl _{3}$ then hydrogen atom of benzene is replaced by alkyl or acyl group respectively.

When benzene is heated with acetyl chloride in presence of anhydrous $AlCl _{3}$, acetophenone is obtained. In this reaction electrophilic substitution takes place.
