Q. What happens when an inert gas is added to an equilibrium keeping volume unchanged ?
JEE Main
JEE Main 2014
Equilibrium
A
More product will form
11%
B
Less product will form
7%
C
More reactant will form
7%
D
Equilibrium will remain unchanged
75%
Solution:
On adding inert gas at constant volume the total pressure of the system is increased, but the partial pressure of each reactant and product remains the same. Hence no effect on the state of equilibrium.
