Q. What happens if $ CCl_{4} $ is treated with $ AgNO_{3} $ ?

Uttarkhand PMTUttarkhand PMT 2008

Solution:

$ CCl_{4} $ is a co-valent compound, therefore, it does not ionize to give $ Cl^{-} $ ions and hence, it does not give white ppt. of $ AgCl $ when treated with $ AgNO_{3} $ solution. There is no reaction to evolve $ NO_{2}.CCl_{4} $ will form a separate layer as it is immiscible with water.
