Q. What amount of bromine will be required to convert $ 2 \,g $ of phenol into $ 2 $ , $ 4 $ , $ 6 $ -bribromo phenol ?

UPSEEUPSEE 2007

Solution:

image
Molecular weight of $C_6H_5OH=94$
Atomic weight of $Br = 80$
Amount of $Br$ utilized $=480\,g$
$\because 94\,g$ of $C_6H_5OH$ reacts with $480 \,g$ of bromine.
$∴2\,g$ of $C_6H_5OH$ will react with $=\frac{480\times2}{94}$
$=10.2\,g$
