J & K CETJ & K CET 2002

Solution:

Uric acid is formed by the degradation of purine bases. Purine nucleotides are degraded by a pathway in which the phosphate group is lost by the action of $5$-nucleotidase. Uric acid is the excreted end product of purine catabolism in primates, birds and some other animals.
