Q. Types of RNA polymerase required in nucleus of eukaryotes for RNA synthesis

AIPMTAIPMT 2001Molecular Basis of Inheritance

Solution:

Enzyme involved in transcription is RNA polymerase. It is single in prokaryotes. There are three types of RNA polymerases in eukaryotes - polymerase for 28S, 18S and 5.8S RNA, polymerase II for wRNA and snRNA and polymerase III for /RNA, 5SRNA and scRNA. RNA polymerase has five polypeptides - a, a, P, P' and (0. s or sigma factor recognises the promoter region while the remaining or core enzyme takes part in ; transcription.
