Q. Two spheres are made of same metal and have same mass. One is solid and the other is hollow. When heated to the same temperature, which of the following statements is correct about the percentage increase in their diameters

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Percentage increase in diameter is given by,
$\frac{\Delta D}{D}\times 100=\left(\alpha \Delta \theta \right)\times 100$
As two spheres are made of same metal hence have same coefficient of linear thermal expansion. Therefore for same rise in temperature the percentage increase in their diameters will be same for both.
