Q. Two sources are said to be coherent if they produce waves

KCETKCET 2009Wave Optics

Solution:

Phase difference $=\frac{2 \pi}{\lambda} \times$ (path difference)
The phase difference is independent of time and depends only on the path difference $\left(x_{2}-x_{1}\right)$ This holds only if the two sources are 'coherent', ie, they have a constant fixed phase difference between them.
