Q. Two solutions of X and Y electrolytes are taken in two beakers and diluted by adding 500 mL of water. $\Lambda_{m}$ of X increases by 1.5 times while that of Y increases by 20 times, what could be the electrolytes X and Y?

Electrochemistry

Solution:

Electrolyte X is strong electrolyte as on dilution the number of ions remains same, only interionic attraction decreases and hence not much increase in $\wedge_{m}$ is seen. While Y is a weak electrolyte since, $\wedge_{m}$ for a weak electrolyte like$ CH_{3}COOH$ increases significantly on dilution.
