Mechanical Properties of Fluids

Solution:

The property of the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules is called the surface tension. The cohesive forces between liquid molecules are responsible for the phenomenon. It is this surface tension that creates repulsive force when glass plates with little water between them are tried to separate.
