Acceleration of blocks

$a=\frac{M g}{m+M}$
Tension in the string/spring
$T = ma =\frac{ mMg }{ m + M }$
$\therefore $ Extension in the string, $x =\frac{ T }{ k }$
$=\frac{ mMg }{ k ( m + M )}$
