Q. Two inflated Balloons I and II having volume $600 ml$ and $1500 ml$ at $300 K$ are taken as shown in diagram-

If the maximum volume of inner and outer balloons are $800 ml$ and $1800 ml$ respectively then the balloon which will burst first on gradual heating is:

States of Matter

Solution:

Apply Charle's law-

For outer balloon

$\frac{ V _{1}}{ T _{1}}=\frac{ V _{2}}{ T _{2}}$

$\frac{1500}{300}=\frac{1800}{ T _{2}}$

$T _{2}=360 K$

Outer balloon will reach its maximum volume at $360 K$ and burst beyond it.

For inner balloon:

$\frac{V_{1}}{T_{1}}=\frac{V_{2}}{T_{2}}$

$\frac{600}{300}=\frac{800}{ T _{2}}$

$T =400 K$

Inner balloon will reach its maximum volume at $400 K$ and burst beyond it. So, on gradual heating outer balloon will burst first.
