Q. Two identical sources of sound $S_{1}$ and $S_{2}$ produce intensity $I_{0}$ at a point $P$ equi distant from source. If power of $S_{1}$ is reduced to $64\%$ and phase difference between two sources is varied then let $I_{m a x}$ is maximum intensity at point $P$ . Find $100\times \frac{I_{m a x}}{I_{0}}.$

Solution:

$I_1=\frac{0.64 I_0}{4}=0.16 I_0$
$I_2=\frac{I_0}{4}=0.25 I_0$
$I_{\max }=\left(\sqrt{I_1}+\sqrt{I_2}\right)^2=\left(.4 \sqrt{I_0}+0.5 \sqrt{I_0}\right)^2=0.81 I_0$
