Q. Two compounds form an ideal solution at room temperature. Which of the following are correct for this ideal solution?
(A) $\Delta G=(+ ve )$
(B) $\Delta S=(+$ ve $)$ surrounding
(C) $\Delta S=(+$ ve $)$ system
(D) $\Delta_{\max } H=0$

TS EAMCET 2019

Solution:

Mixing of ideal materials is regarded as an increase in randomness at a molecular level. Therefore, $\Delta S=+$ ve system required for ideal mixing of solution but no enthalpy change present during the formation of ideal solution. Gibbs free energy of mixing is always negative, thus, ideal solution becomes spontaneous.
