Q. To neutralize completely 20 mL of 0.1M aqueous solution of phosphorus acid $(H_3PO_3)$ the volumeof 0.1 M aqueous KOH solution required is

Solutions

Solution:

$H _3 PO _3$ is a dibasic acid.
$H _3 PO _3+2 KOH \longrightarrow K _2 HPO _3+2 H _2 O$
$\frac{M_A V_A}{n_A}=\frac{M_B V_B}{n_B}$
$\frac{0.1 \times 20}{1}=\frac{0.1 \times V_B}{2}$
$V_B=40 \,mL$
