Q. To dissolve 0.9 g metal, 100 mL of $ 1\text{ }N\text{ }HCl $ is used. What is the equivalent weight of metal?

JamiaJamia 2012

Solution:

$ 1\text{ }N\text{ }HCl $ solution means; 36.5 g of $ HCl $ are dissolved in 1000 mL. ( $ \because $ Equivalent wt. of $ HCl=36.5 $ ) $ \therefore $ 100 mL of $ HCl $ solution contains $ HCl $ Similarly 100 mL of $ HCl $ solution contains Now, $ \frac{Eq.\text{ }wt.\text{ }of\text{ }metal}{Weight\text{ }of\text{ }metal\text{ }in\text{ }solution} $ $ =\frac{Eq.\text{ }wt.\text{ }of\text{ }acid}{Weight\text{ }of\text{ }acid\text{ }in\text{ }solution} $ $ \frac{E}{0.9}=\frac{36.5}{3.65} $ $ E=9 $
