Q. Thermodynamical behaviour of a gas is represented by a right angled triangle $A B C$ on a $P-V$ diagram. The co-ordinates $A, B$ and $C$ are: $A (20,6), B (30,18)$ and $C (30,6)$ where $P$ is in $N / m ^{2}$ and $V$ is in $m ^{3}$. Calculate the work done by the gas in joules.

Solution:

Work done is area under the $P - V$ graph
$\therefore W =\frac{1}{2} \times AC \times BC $
$=\frac{1}{2} \times 10 \times 12=60\, J$
