Q. The work function of a metal surface is $4eV$ . The longest wavelength of light that can cause photoelectron emission from this surface is approximately

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Let λm = Longest wavelength of light
$\frac{h c}{\left(\lambda \right)_{m}}=\phi\left(\text{work function}\right)$
Therefore, $\lambda _{m}=\frac{h c}{\phi}=\frac{6 .63 \times 10^{- 34} \times 3 \times 10^{8}}{4 .0 \times 1 .6 \times 10^{- 19}}$
Or λm = 310 nm.
