Q. The work done in dragging a stone of mass $100\, kg$ up an inclined plane 1 in $100$ through a distance of $10\, m$ is (take $g = 9.8\, m/s^{2}$)

Work, Energy and Power

Solution:

Slope of inclined plane, sin $\theta = 1/100$
Component of weight down the inclined plane
$F = mg = \sin \,\theta = 100 \times 9.8 \times \frac{1}{100}$
$= 9.8\, N$
$s =$ distance moved $= 10\, m$
$W = Fs = 9.8 \times 10 = 98\, J$
