Q. The wavelength of light in the visible region is about $390 \,nm$ for violet colour and about $760\, nm$ for red colour. The energy of photon in $eV$ at violet end is

Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter

Solution:

Energy of the incident photon,
$E=h\upsilon=\frac{hc}{\lambda}$
For violet light, $\lambda=390\,nm$
$\therefore $ Incident photon energy, $E=\frac{6.63\times10^{-34}\times3\times10^{8}}{390\times10^{-9}}J$
$=5.1\times10^{-19}\,J =\frac{5.1\times10^{-19}}{1.6\times10^{-19}}eV $
$=3.19\,eV$
