Q. The violent reaction between sodium and water is an example of :

Redox Reactions

Solution:

Reaction:
$\underset{0}{Na} + \underset{+1}{H _{2} O} \rightarrow \underset{+1}{NaOH} +\underset{0}{(1 / 2) H _{2}}$
The oxidation state of $Na$ changes from 0 to $+1$ while that of $H$ from $+1$ to 0 . Here, oxidation state of reactants changes so, it is a redox reaction.
