Q. The value of $K _{ p }$ for the reaction,
$2 SO _{2}( g )+ O _{2}( g ) \rightleftharpoons 2 SO _{3}( g ) $ is $ 5$
What will be the partial pressure of $O _{2}$ at equilibrium when equal moles of $SO _{2}$ and $SO _{3}$ are present at equilibrium?

Equilibrium

Solution:

$2 SO _{2}+ O _{2} \rightleftharpoons 2 SO _{3}$
$K _{ p }=\frac{ p _{ SO _{3}}^{2}}{ p _{ SO _{3}}^{2} \times p _{ O _{2}}}=5$
$\because n _{ SO _{2}}= n _{ SO _{3}}$
$\Rightarrow \chi SO _{2}=\chi SO _{3} \Rightarrow P _{ SO _{2}}= p _{ SO _{3}}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{ p _{ O _{2}}}=5 \Rightarrow P _{ O _{2}}=0.2$
