Q. The value of $ I{{E}_{1}},\,I{{E}_{2}},\,I{{E}_{3}},\,I{{E}_{4}} $ and $ I{{E}_{5}} $ of an element are 7.1, 14.3, 34.5, 46.8 and 162.2 eV respectively. The element is likely to be:

JIPMERJIPMER 1997

Solution:

The values of ionisation energies shows that the element loose 4-electrons easily but not the fifth one. Hence, the element will be silicon, which has 4-electrons in its valence-shell to loose easily.
