Distance is a scalar quantity.
Distance is defined as length of the path between two points.
In this case
Distance =Area of v -t graph in $4 \,s$
= Area of triangle
$=\frac{1}{2} \text { base } \times \text { height } $
$=\frac{1}{2} \times 4 \times 8=16 \,m$
