Neurons are the unit of the nervous system. These are considered as the longest cells of the body.
Each neuron arises in the embryo, from a single neuroblast cell. Its main cell body, from which processes arise, is called cyton, perikaryon or soma.
Cytons of most neurons occur in grey matter of central nervous system particulary in brain. A few are present outside the CNS, called ganglia. Besides the presence of Nissi bodies and neuro fibrils are characteristic of all neurons. The processes of the neurons are called neurites are of two types-dendrons or dendrites and axon or axis.
